DIRECTIONS

Driving directions from Volcan

A 4WD vehicle is required to visit Mount Totumas Cloud Forest. Set your odometer to zero at Banco Nacional in Volcan. Take the paved road to Rio Sereno for approx. 9.8km to a pass called Silla Pando. You will round a curve and notice on your right a turn off that starts as paved for about 20 feet and then terminates as a 4x4 track.  This turn off is before the small bus stop. This is the beginning of the 4WD road up to Mount Totumas.  Set your odometer again to zero and continue slowly up the road. At around km 5 you will see a sign Los Pozos and Mount Totumas. Continue straight on the road for about 2km when you drive across the first stream. Continue up to an open area with rustic cabins. You will see on your left a small road leading up with a sign for Mount Totumas. Follow this and when you cross the 2nd stream you're on our reserve. From here it is an additional 2km- then your here

Traveling to Mount Totumas from Panama City

There are two airlines that offer domestic flight service from Panama City to David (closest airport to MTCF).  Copa Airlines has two flights a day and they leave from the International Airport at Tocumen. Air Panama also has two flights a day and they leave from the domestic airport in Albrook close to the center of the city. Both airlines charge about the same and there is no savings in getting a round trip flight.

If you are planning on staying a couple days in Panama City before heading to David then the best choice is to fly with Air Panama from Albrook domestic airport.  If you are arriving on an international flight and want to come directly to David then choose Copa Airlines as you can often connect on your arrival day to a flight to David   If your international flight arrives in the evening there are two hotels that are 3 minutes from Tocumen that offer free shuttles,  Riande Hotel and Crown Plaza Tocumen.  You can catch the first flight to David the following morning.

Once again consider either airline when returning from David to Panama City.  If you are connecting to an international flight then choose Copa Airlines.  If you are planning to stay a night or two in Panama City before departing Panama then choose Air Panama.
